"Dichotomy of Sexuality" - An experimental video/music composition.

What is the "Dichotomy of Sexuality"?

"Dichotomy of Sexuality" is a video and music work exploring the traditional societal view that there are only two distinct and mutually exclusive categories of gender and sexuality. It challenges this view by suggesting that gender and sexuality are more complex and nuanced than the traditional dichotomy suggests. It features a combination of pornography and jazz music to explore how the traditional dichotomy of sexuality is limiting and reductive and how it can reinforce harmful gender stereotypes and discriminatory practices.

Why is jazz music?

Jazz music is often associated with sensuality and sexuality and can help to enhance the erotic and sensual elements of the work. Jazz music often incorporates elements of improvisation and spontaneity, which reflect the themes of exploration and experimentation presented in the work. Jazz music also adds a layer of sophistication and complexity to the overall experience, elevating the video from a simple depiction of sexual activity to a more nuanced exploration of sexuality and human experience.

What message does the work convey?

Through the combination of pornography and jazz music, the work invites the viewer to consider the complexity and nuance of sexuality and to question the rigid societal norms that dictate how we express our sexuality. It challenges the viewer to consider how the traditional dichotomy of sexuality reinforces harmful gender stereotypes and discriminatory practices and limits our understanding of human experience.

What is the work suggesting about sexuality?

The work explores how sexuality is a fluid and ever-changing concept. With its improvisational and experimental nature, jazz music suggests that sexuality is not fixed and unchanging but a dynamic and evolving aspect of the human experience. The use of pornography may further emphasize this point, as it depicts sexual activity as a fluid and constantly evolving act.

How does the work comment on pornography?

The work also comments on how pornography can reinforce harmful gender stereotypes and discriminatory practices. By presenting pornography in an artistic and sophisticated manner, it challenges the viewer to consider how pornography can be used to perpetuate harmful gender norms and encourages them to question their own assumptions and beliefs about sexuality.

What is the overall message of "Dichotomy of Sexuality"?

Overall, "Dichotomy of Sexuality" is a thought-provoking exploration of the traditional dichotomy of sexuality and its limitations. Through pornography and jazz music, it challenges the viewer to consider the complexity and nuance of sexuality and to question the rigid societal norms that dictate how we express our sexuality. Doing so encourages the viewer to explore their own understanding of sexuality and embrace the fluid and ever-changing nature of the human experience.
